Dr. Jerold McBride has been Pastor Emeritus since his retirement in 2001, serving FBC, San Angelo as Pastor for 31 years (1970-2001). He served as President of the Baptist General Convention of Texas for two terms, 1993-95. A native of Winnfield, Louisiana, Dr. McBride graduated from Hardin-Simmons University (BS) and Southwestern Seminary (MDiv, ThD). An outstanding speaker and writer, he has held five Interim Pastorates since 2001. He has been a trustee at HSU, SWBTS, Truett Seminary and Baptist Standard Director.

Robert Dillard has been the Pastor’s Visitation Assistant since February 2010. Robert and his wife, Ferrell, grew up in San Angelo and have worked with Senior Adults ever since 1969. Robert retired in February 2010 after 42 years as a meat cutter with several grocery stores, but his love has always been his church. Along with visiting prospects for the church and making hospital visits he maintains a connection between the church’s homebound members and their church. He uses II Corinthians 1:3 as his statement of ministry. Robert and Ferrell have two grown children, Robert Jr. and Linda Lee.

Kevin Ray has served as Minister of Education & Administration since May 15, 2011. He was born in Little Rock Arkansas, and went to the University School of Jackson, in Jackson, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University (BA) and Dallas Baptist University (MACE). He and his wife Kristen were married on December 29, 2007.

Bill Gillum, was called as Minister of Music on Sunday, December 12, 2010. He comes to First Baptist Church, San Angelo after 14 years of music ministry at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in Lubbock. He is a native of Jonesboro, Louisiana, a 1976 graduate of Baylor University (BS, Music Education) and a 1981 graduate of Southwestern Seminary (MRE). He has served as Minister of Music in Texas Baptist churches since 1973. He and his wife, Elaine, have three grown children: Lindsey, Lauren and Lance.

Karen Walters has been Minister to Preschool & Children since January 2009, serving as Interim Minister from 2007-2009. She is a native of Baird and legal secretary graduate of the Stenograph Institute of Texas. She has been a legal secretary, tutor at Fannin Elementary and an Aide for Visually Impaired at Crockett Elementary. Karen served as Ministry Assistant to Youth & University and Publications in our church (1988-91) and Music Teacher in the CDC (2006-07). She and her husband, Scott, have two girls: Emily, a freshman at Texas Tech, and Kassi, a 7th grader at Glenn Middle School.

Bobby Catt has served as Minister with Students & Recreation since March 2009. A native of Wimberley, he is a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (BA, Religion & Recreation), where he was BSM Co-President, and George W. Truett Theological Seminary. (MDiv). Previously, he served as Youth Pastor, Miller Heights Baptist Church, Belton (2004-09). He and his wife, Carrie, have two daughters, Brynlee and Brielle.

Tom Dufresne, Minister of Broadcast Media, began as a volunteer in 1984 and came on staff in 1995. A native of Michigan, he is a graduate of Howard Payne University (BS in General Business/Religious Education) and SFA University (MA, Radio/TV/Film). Tom has been the pastor of three Texas Baptist churches in Levita, Burkett and McCamey. He has served as Minister of TV, FBC, Midland and has a love for missions, serving in Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras. He and wife, Murph, have two grown daughters, Christy and Alicia.

Linda Bratcher, Church Organist, has served as Organist since 1997 and was Church Pianist 1982-97. She is a graduate of SACHS and attended ASU. She is Social Service Coordinator at Baptist Retirement Community and earned an Assisted Living Administrator’s License from Texas State University, as well as a Retirement Housing Professional Certification from North Texas State University. She has served as Pastor’s Administrative Assistant (1977-83) and Music Ministry Administrative Assistant (1983-97). She and her husband, Laylan, have two grown children: Scott and Stephanie.

Janet Faulkner, Church Pianist, has served as Pianist since February of 2010. Janet first came to FBC, San Angelo when her husband, Lyndel, was called as Minister of Music (1976-1993). While serving on the music faculty at SWBTS (1993-2008), Lyndel passed away and Janet moved back to San Angelo. Janet has three grown children: Andrea Irvin, Chris Vaught and Matt Vaught. Janet earned a BA, Fine Arts from Oklahoma University.

Shirley Capers has been Director, Food Services in our church since 1995. Shirley grew up in an oil field family, so her childhood was spent “all over West Texas and New Mexico.” She loves cooking and loves cars. She learned to fix motors with her Dad in the oil field, has 660 hours of Auto Mechanic Training through Odessa Trade School and enjoyed working on car motors before computers. She has cooked in hospitals, cafes and worked in auto parts stores. She and her husband, Roy, have three grown children: Charlettia, Kenneth and Myra.

Ann Choate has been Church Librarian since 1999. With a Master of Library Science degree from NTSU, and the help of many others, she led in converting our church library program to computer. Ann also is a graduate of Baylor (BA, English, Spanish) and attended San Angelo College for two years. She taught for 37 years in the SAISD, 31 years of those years at Glenn Junior High. She came to work at First Baptist Church after retiring from the SAISD.

Rocky Stone has served as Building Engineer in our church since 1987. Previously, he served as Building Engineer for FBC, Lubbock and a painter for Texas Tech University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He says, “I love the Lord and my ministry is maintenance here at FBC and to help every minister and church member carry out their ministry the very best we can.” Rocky and his wife, Donna, have two daughters, Dondee and Amanda. Rocky supervises a building maintenance/custodial staff of five men.

Becky Powers has served as Ministry Assistant to the Pastor since 2006. Previously, she served as Students and Singles MinistryAssistant (2003-06). Becky graduated from El Paso Coronado High School and Texas Tech(BS Elementary Education/Generic Special Ed) and taught 4th grade for 14 years and Elementary Alternative Education for 2 years in Midland. Becky also served as Receptionist/Executive Administrative Assistant at BJ Oil Company in San Angelo. Her husband, Ron, retired from the USDA, is an Optical Technician.

Martha Bailey, a native of Ballinger, has served as Ministry Assistant to the Minister of Education and Administration since 2003. She earned a BBA in Marketing from McMurry College and attended the Texas Tech School of Banking. She worked in banking for 31 years before coming to serve at FBC, San Angelo. Her husband, Roger, is retired from Ethicon, but works presently as an environmental specialist. Roger and Martha have two grown children, Jay and Brittany. They are members of Lifepoint Baptist Church.

Suzy Mears served as Financial Ministry Assistant beginning in August 2007 and then became Financial Director, January 1st, 2010. A native of Houston, she received a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M. Previously, Suzy served as part-time Church Librarian, 1990-95. Her husband, Nolen, is Executive Director of Student Life at ASU. They have two married children—Eric, who lives in Lewisville and Joy, who lives in Woodbridge, Virginia. Nolen and Suzy are members of Southland Baptist Church.

Diane Peacock has served as Students & Recreation Ministry Assistant since September 2009, but previously served as Youth Ministry Secretary with Senior Adult and Publications responsibilities (1991-2001) and served as Pastor’s Ministry Assistant (2001-03). A native of Odessa, Diane attended Odessa College and has served for almost 25 years in some form of church secretarial ministry. She is married to Kerry, Investment/Stock Broker for Raymond James, and together, they have six grown children.

Patsy Rogers currently serves as Receptionist & Senior Adult Ministry Assistant, but has worked in various church staff capacities continuously in our church since 1986. A native of Dublin, Texas, she attended Howard Payne University. Patsy has three grown sons, Donald, Douglas and Mark. She has worked previously as Cashier at Tarleton State University, Bank Secretary for Stephenville State Bank and Clerk Typist for Humble Oil and Refining Company in Winters.

Joanna Sturgill has served as Music, Singles, Preschool & Children Ministry Assistant since 2003. She is a native of Newlin and a graduate of Estelline High School, Estelline, Texas. She earned a BBA from ASU. Previously, she has worked with National Life & Accident Insurance, as well as GTE. Her husband, Gary, is retired from Goodyear, but is active in the “Rebuilding Together” ministry. They have a grown daughter, Lisa Michelle.
